Immersion Into Malaysian Fishing Village

Hosted by Yee Ling - The Citizen Activist

Hi there! You can call me Yee Ling. I was formerly worked in New Village Department in Pu... trajaya where my responsibility was to promote the development of new villages and I am still actively involved with the communities. Sustainable rural development and community empowerment is always my calling. I was responsible for organising the “New Village Leadership Empowerment Convention "in Year 2019 where the concept of “Village Vision” was presented, aiming to “rejuvenate and bring new vitality to new villages." Kuala Sepetang is like my second home. I was elected as a State Legislator here in the 2013. During my years in the State Assembly, I was actively promoting the local characteristics of the constituency, supporting cultural and artistic education as well as humanistic eco-tourism. I worked closely with my constituents to bring better urban planning to Kuala Sepetang, bringing new vitality into these small places, while creating more opportunities and platforms for the people. I have a long history of working with communities and empowering them. I look forward to hosting this special experience that I have curated to create more awareness about the life in a fishing village, as I truly believe that every village has its historical value that is worth preserving. What we Will do

Get to know about the daily life of Malaysian fishermen, their families, and community in this thriving fishing village protected from the mangrove forest.

We will start our journey at Port Weld (the first railway line in the Peninsular Malaysia) and walk around Kuala Sepetang village where you will get to meet and learn about the locals livelihood and lifestyle. One of the highlights is the hidden shop that serves the most authentic local coffee brewed by the local who has more than 28 years of running a "kopitiam". After the walk, we will take a boat to Kuala Sangar, another small fishing village where the people there are still living without electricity and get ready to leave your mobile phone aside in your pocket/bag and be present because data coverage is very limited.

Immerse yourself into a fishing experience on a private boat with the fishermen at the sea and get amazed by the sunset watch over the Strait of Malacca at Kuala Sangga.

Some of your catches will be served for your steamboat dinner at one of the local's home! After dinner, we will continue with our journey to watch the beautiful fireflies in a pitch dark night on a relaxing boat cruise before we head back to the jetty at Kuala Sepetang.

This experience is available at 2pm, Malaysia time (GMT+8). Special arrangement can be made for other preferred dates or private tour (Subject to host's availability)

Great personalized tour by Buddyz Chua Yee Ling, who pretty much knows most of the villagers in Kampung Seberang, Kuala Sepetang town and Kuala Sangga. Had nice Hor Ka Sai drink, visit to Kuala Sangga primary school (with tour sharing by the school headmaster and village head, showing how they improvise from not having electricity and water), following local fisherman to go to catch cockle, seafood steamboat from fresh catch and the cockle that we catched earlier, as well as firefly visit across longest firefly mangrove in Malaysia. It is a great experience to feel the life of Malaysian fishing village!

The tour took us to experience the local community in Kuala Sepetang and its vicinity, hosted by local activist Yee Ling, we were shown to the back lanes and lifes not known to many city dwellers. Personally, the most memorable experience is the visit to the Kuala Sangga fishing community which was once a popular transit spot for local fishermen and the amazing firefly stretch up to a few KMs! I wouldn't have known this largest natural mangrove forest is the largest Peninsular Malaysia with so much of biodiversity to offer if not because of this tour, and this is highly recommended for couples, families and friends for a quick few hours of truly Malaysia experience.
