Thaipusam The Start, The End, And Everything In Between

Hosted by Tajuddin Idrus a.k.a Dean - History Enthusiast

Hi, my name is Tajuddin or you can call me "Dean". I was born in Kedah, a northern side o... f Peninsular Malaysia but grew up in Kuala Lumpur since 1970s and now residing in Wangsa Maju, about 10km from Malaysia's most recognizable and popular landmark, Petronas Twin Tower! I used to work in various multi-national companies focusing on telecommunication industry where my last engagement was based overseas before I quit the corporate world back in 2013 to pursue something that offers work-life balance and chose becoming a freelance tourist guide for my beloved country, Malaysia. I love history and actively involved in a few associations related to culture heritage, such as the Malaysian Cultural Group, Malaysia Historical Society, The Heritage of Malaysia Trust and Malaysian Branch of The Royal Asiatic Society (MBRAS). Come join me in this virtual experience and find out the unheard stories and origin of current capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur! Show More

What we Will do

In this Virtual Experience, I will share a key Hindu festival known as Thaipusam which is celebrated in a grand fashion in countries where there are large numbers of Tamil populations like Malaysia.

Over the years I have guided many foreign and local guests to this festival, I will share more insights on this festival based on what I have documented in terms of images, videos, stories and facts behind this unique festival.

This is a festival where Hindu devotees show their devotion and respect towards Lord Murugan, the God of the Tamil for fulfilling their vows and in return the devotees shall perform various act of thanksgiving such as shaving their hair, carrying milk pots and carrying a Kavadi, a metal structure that is hooked to one’s flesh.

In this experience, I will share how the devotees prepare their mind and soul prior to the peak of the celebration and the rituals that took place till completion.

At the end of the experience, you will have a better understanding of this festival and the rituals associated with it.
